"The other day I asked a 12-yr-old boy "What's your favorite video game?" After thinking for a minute, he responded, "Well, before Katrina or after Katrina?" "Uh, before Katrina" I decided. "Zelda" was his quick response. "And after Katrina?" I continued. "Well.....Zelda." Even twelve-year-olds are making this distinction in every aspect of their lives, down to their choice in video games."

WUSYG has been working with Project H.O.P.E. in St. Bernard Parish, LA, since February 2005. Not only have we have raised money to send workers down over school vacations, but we have also worked from Massachusetts to educate others about the situation in the South post-hurricanes. Most recently, we purchased a truck and trailer, stocked it with tools, and donated it to our friends at Project H.O.P.E.

WUSYG has also been part of numerous intergenerational service trips to Lacombe and Slidell, LA with members of WUS.  The friends we have made through the work we have done will be friends forever.

We are so glad to have been able to lend a hand, and we plan to continue until the job is done.

If you are interested in planning your own service trip, we have useful packets available on our resources page.

Please contact us if you would like us to come speak to your group, or if you would like a copy of our 10 minute video or our full-length documentary "With Our Eyes Shut" (winner of the UUA Youth Voices Award, 2006).
